WE BELIEVE IN A NEW FUTURE WHERE EVERY YOUNG PERSON IS FREE TO DREAM AND REALIZE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL
Dreamers Youth was founded by Asha Holland and Samantha Smith, who were inspired by their own life-changing experiences as kids - experiences that were not available for most young people in their neighborhoods.
In Columbus Ohio, Asha discovered her passion for music at an early age making mixtapes with her mom’s DJ friends, developed her skills at the nearby community center, and began touring the country at the age of 13.
Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, Samantha had the rare opportunity to attend leadership conferences, youth camps and performing arts programs, which provided a safe space for her to be vulnerable, unleash her imagination and dream big.
Their eyes were opened to a world of possibilities that paved each of their unique pathways into adulthood. Asha made her dream of becoming a world-class DJ a reality while Samantha embarked on her own entrepreneurial journey as a healer, building and launching several wellness businesses.
HOW WE STARTED
After meeting in Los Angeles in 2015, Samantha and Asha were inspired to provide the same creative experiences and life-changing opportunities for kids that they had growing up. They hosted their first creative workshop in partnership with the late, great Nipsey Hussle and invited a group of middle schoolers to his production studio for a hands-on workshop with their personal hero. After seeing how inspired and accomplished kids could be outside of a classroom setting, Dreamers Youth was born.
DREAMERS YOUTH TODAY
At Dreamers Youth, Asha and Samantha leverage their skills as educators, community leaders, creative thinkers and parents to open young people’s minds to the possibilities within and beyond their own neighborhoods. They are shifting culture to be more inclusive of Black youth, and are empowering young people to shape a new future where they can realize their fullest potential and make their dreams come true.
